Nice, Not Creepy
A sad possibility is that the u13 (previously u12) girls soccer team may not be the same next year (besides becoming the u14 girls soccer team). We’re getting a new head coach (who may hire assistants who don’t give out their secrets), some want to play volleyball, the injury bug has struck us, and others are thinking about prioritizing other things. Either you or the world is always moving on, right?
So I said to our managing editor Sarah, “What would it look like if we made a book of the soccer stories to give to each player just in case?”
But when I mentioned to my wife – who married me for two and only two reasons – that I was thinking about doing that, she said rightly that while that seemed nice it might also be perceived as creepy. “So if you are going to do that,” she said, “write an introduction explaining why you write about them so they think you’re nice, not creepy.’
And I thought that was good advice. So here it is…
Team,
My job is to make and help others make good decisions. And I get better at my job when I make and help others make better decisions. And the only way to make better decisions is to keep learning. And I have learned so much from all of you by helping coach the team. In other words, thank you for helping me get better at my job.
Another part of my job is to write a daily email about things I’ve learned. You might guess, then, that I’ve written about you guys in that email. And you’d be right! What’s in this book are a few of my favorites. You’re a great group that has given me lots of memories and stories, and I hope you enjoy it.
Coach Tim
So that’s that and I hope it’s nice, not creepy. And nice, not creepy, seems like a good way to end season 5. It’s funny. I always tear up a little when a season ends. But so far this ending is the one that has made me tear up the most.
Have a great summer and remember work hard have fun.
