The Point of This
If you go way back to the beginning of these whatever-they-are, I wondered what happens after you die. At the time, that had a lot to do with succession planning, inheritance, and the mechanics of all that. Who owns what. Who gets what. And whether any of our instructions or directions will actually work the way we tell ourselves they will.
I still don’t really know what to do about the stuff. But I do know I’d like to leave a mindset. And that’s the point. That’s why I keep writing these whatever-they-are.
For my kids, or their kids, or whoever stumbles across them someday, I don’t want to leave answers. I want to leave evidence. Evidence of curiosity. Of paying attention. Of what I thought was funny and what mattered. And what wasn’t or didn’t.
Business and investing have turned out to be an unexpectedly good medium for this. And so has Missouri. I’m glad we moved.
Because all of those things force trade-offs. And trade-offs show very quickly the difference between what you believe and what you say you believe.
So pay attention to incentives. Be skeptical of certainty. Don’t confuse activity with progress. And enjoy the people you do it with.
With that, we’re going to hit the beach for an extended Spring Break. One, because I think I’ve earned it. And two, my editor/illustrator Sarah is out on maternity leave (congratulations and welcome to the world, Leo!), and I don’t want to find out how this works without an editor/illustrator.
See you.
