Hello Qualified Facts

I’ll come clean: I almost shut down this whatever-it-is at the end of last season because I got us threatened with a lawsuit. I will let you guess who latched onto which one of these and went hostile.

I felt bad.

Emily laughed and said, “I think this means you’ve made it.”

Holly wanted to know if we were really getting sued.

Taylor said, “See, downside.”

But our CEO Brent said, “No, don’t do that.”

And I appreciated the encouragement, so I had every intention of returning this Wednesday after Labor Day (I hope you enjoyed the beach…the Hansons explored Naxos) to kick-off a full-blown season ocho of these whatever-they-are (SarahGW even designed the sweet masthead you see above).

Alas, it wasn’t meant to be.

See, our former (qualified) CFO Nikki decided to pursue a different opportunity at the end of May so I’ve been back to interim CFO-ing as well as President & CIO-ing while we sold something else and started raising our third fund.

It’s been busy!

And when things get busy, other things fall by the wayside because opportunity cost. And one of the things that fell were these whatever-they-are.

This isn’t to say I didn’t give it a shot. I got about eight written, but it was stressful and I didn’t think they were particularly good. So as much as I enjoy being the guy with the thing, if something is not entertaining and likable, one thing I’ve learned is to stop.

When I mentioned that that was my plan to the team, the consensus was that we could top doing nothing by doing something. And as it turns out – because we have such a fantastic team here at Permanent Equity – there was no shortage of people willing to pick up my slack (apparently having the opportunity to razz your coworkers in public is not something anyone will pass up…and I think I’m about to reap what I’ve sown).

So Unqualified Opinions is officially on sabbatical, but Qualified Facts is now a thing. I’ll try to quality control them for you, but I’m not entirely sure when we’re going to start or how often we’re going to publish. What I know, though, is that you’re going to hear from everyone. And what I hope is that Emily and Brent both tell you about the snowmobile incident.

Godspeed.

Tim
